The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Healthy students can learn better and thrive at school. Guajome students are welcome to come to the Health Office located through the Main Office for any needs or concerns they may have.

Parents & Guardians, if your student is in the Health Office and you receive a call to pick them up, please FIRST sign them out at the Attendance window, then come to the Health Office to pick up your student.

Please refer to the following guidelines to determine if your child’s needs would be best met by coming to school or staying at home. All students benefit from a healthy classroom environment and are most successful when rested and feeling good. Thank you for your assistance.

Send to School

Fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication
No vomiting in the last 24 hours
No diarrhea in the last 24 hours
Minor cold symptoms
Asthma is responsive to medication
With a doctor’s clearance following hospitalization, orthopedic injury or communicable disease

Orthopedic Protocol

In order to return to school, all ace bandages, braces, splints, cast (velcro or plaster) and crutches must have a note from their medical provider. Students with casts and crutches will not be allowed to actively participate in playground/PE activities because of the potential danger to the student and others. High school athletes included.

Keep at Home

Fever in the last 24 hours
Vomiting in the last 24 hours
Diarrhea in the last 24 hours
Signs of illness that interfere with learning, sleep, activity or play
Cold symptoms such as frequent coughing and or nasal discharge that do not respond to medication.

Complaints of ear pain or drainage from ears
Nasal discharge which persists over 14 days duration
Undiagnosed skin rash or sores with redness, swelling or fluid
Redness of the eye with discharge or swelling
Asthma not responding to medication, peak flow 50% or less, or treatment required more than every 4 hours.

In accordance with the latest SDCOE recommendations for COVID-19, Guajome has updated our COVID-19 Attendance Protocol as follows:

It is NO longer necessary for you to provide any test results (negative or positive) to the school, however, we do ask that you continue to report your student’s absence/illness to the Attendance Hotline at (760) 631-8505 each and every day your student is absent, so that your student’s attendance can be updated accordingly.

Symptomatic
Students should stay home when symptoms appear. May return to school when they are fever-free for 24 hours, without using fever-reducing medication AND other non- fever symptoms are mild and improving.

Asymptomatic (no symptoms)
Remain at school, unless symptoms develop. Then follow the Symptomatic guidance above.

All students who test positive for COVID-19:

Should avoid contact for 10 days with individuals who are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.

EXPOSURE/CLOSE-CONTACTS
If your student has been exposed to COVID-19 (close-contact) but shows no symptoms (Asymptomatic), your student should remain in school. If symptoms appear, please follow the Symptomatic guidelines (above).
