Middle School

The middle school program has a six-period schedule that runs for two semesters within the yearly school calendar.  The program’s curriculum is based on the California Content Standards and embraces the vision and philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Programme, developing lifelong learners who thrive and make a difference. 

In addition to the core classes of English-language arts, history-social science, mathematics, and science, middle school students take German or Spanish, physical education, and drama, music, technology, or art.

Academic Support classes are provided to students that need additional support. Students who are English language learners (EL) take English Language Development (ELD) classes, and Study Skills classes are provided for Special Education students instead of an elective.

Guajome values and respects the wholeness of the student and the lives they lead outside of the walls of the classroom. The physical, emotional, and social well-being of the student is equally important to the academic well-being, and all aspects influence each other. It is with this in mind, that we have a philosophy regarding work in and outside of the classroom that:

2. Emphasizes authenticity adn value in the work
3. Encourages students to make connections between course content and their experiences
4. Differentiates work to meet student's academic goals, needs, and interests
5. Accurately reflects the work of the student
6. Is mindful of the student's time and access to resources

Every school year, middle school students have an opportunity to join clubs on campus or take steps to create a new club around their own interests. Student clubs meet during lunch or after school, with GPA faculty serving as club advisors and supporting students' passions.

Guajome Athletics offers middle school students the opportunity to get involved with sports throughout the school year. In 2023, GPA's middle school co-ed soccer team and the girls basketball team took the championships in their leagues!
